Its Monday what are you reading?!

I enjoyed this book, it was very colorful and easy to follow along with. The illustrations were just right, they didn’t take away from the reading. One thing I liked was that you think the young boys dad will find out what he is up to but you get surprised in the end.  I think if I used this book in my class I would read it to my students then maybe have them write about their ideal pet.

This book was so cute!  It is only pictures so it requires the reader to use their imagination.  If you presented this book in your classroom each student could say something about each page and  make your own classroom story.

This book  was very colorful and even had a lesson to go along with it. It gave a slight insight into how some animals sleep and when or where they sleep.  I think this book would be best for any child no older than second grade.  I would recommend this book to any early reader because it was very easy to follow and the illustrations were big but very simple at the same time.

This book was about Jane Goodall.  That to me is cool because not only do you read the book and look at the pictures but you get a feel for how she felt when she was growing up.  It’s a good way to help children at a young age understand that going after what you want in life and chasing your dreams is ok! It would also be fun to talk about different jungle animals and possibly do some research on them.

This book is awful!  I am only blogging about this book because I want all of you to know that the illustrations in this book are very inappropriate.  I do not know how or when this book got the Caldecott award, but personally I don’t ever plan on reading this book to my students or my children.

This book is about a little chicken who just wants her Papa to read her a bedtime story but she keeps interrupting him so he invites her to tell him a bedtime story, but unfortunately he falls asleep.  Very  bright, appealing illustrations. I think that is the best part of the book for me.  It made the story line funnier and very cute. I would definitely read this to my kids or my students.

This book had a great story line, it had a younger boy who had a job doing a paper route that he worked hard at even though he had to get up before everyone in the house. That is definitely what I liked most about this book. Kids always take away so much from books, tv shows, and movies. Maybe if they heard this book they would want to take on responsibility and work hard because they know its required of them.  The illustrations were perfect and seemed to keep the story going in a way.

This book is perfect for child interaction. The illustrations are just as simple as the reading. Have you ever watched those child shows that the character might ask the viewers for help? That is exactly what this book is like.  Its so cool because I can just see students answering the pigeon. Books like this keep readers engaged and interested.

This book talks about the struggles of a little girl that just wants to wear whatever she feels like wearing but she has all these outside influences telling her what to do. It’s just a good message to give to kids especially in todays world.

One thing I liked about this book is that in the back it explains the word Zen. I think that is a helpful thing to have because its like a little history lesson. This book has good stories inside the main story.  It also explains that Zen Shorts are just short meditations that require you to ponder over things.  I think this story would be best for upper elementary because they would need to think about the short stories and express their opinions.

This book was about a little girl who goes and visits her grandma in the city.  She has set her mind on the fact that the city is no place for her nana.  But after awhile her nana shows her that it isn’t a bad place to be and there are many wonderful things to see.  It has a hidden message for me that you can’t judge a book by it’s cover you need to get to know it first.  I really liked the illustrations because they were kind of child like but still had a good quality to them.  I definitely wouldn’t read this book to students that were over second grade just because it is a very easy reading book.

This book is about Officer Buckle who is all about safety.  He meets Gloria (a dog) who goes to all his safety presentations with him and she ends up making his shows better because she does tricks, but Officer Buckle thinks that it is because of his safety tips that makes listeners cheer.  They end up parting ways because officer Buckle feels deceived but both Officer Buckle and Gloria both soon realize they are not good without the other and end up back as a team.  It’s got a great message and really vibrant illustrations which brings out the over all feel of the flow of the book.

Three soldiers are traveling on foot and all they want is food, lodging, and to sleep!  They come across this village where the villagers are being very greedy, not only with the soldiers but also with each other.  The soldiers soon help the villagers realize that every person can offer something for everyone that makes it a huge feast that all can enjoy.  In my opinion they made the peasants believe that they couldn’t have this amazing soup and huge feast without those three stones.  It was an ok book and I think at some point in the future I would maybe have this in my personal library for my classroom.

Oh this book is just adorable.  The illustrations are definitely my favorite because you get the feel of an actual photo with the background but the characters are definitely drawn.  It’s a great contrast that you don’t see very much if at all in books.  My favorite part about the book is that at the end when they get Knuffle Bunny back for Trixie and she blurts it out clear as day!  She went all the way back home mumbling trying to express what was wrong.  My niece did that too so I think it’s funny because they do what they want when they want, like walking and talking.

Sylvester is a donkey who loves collecting all sorts of pebbles for his hobby.  He comes across a special pebble that ends up saving his life from a big bad lion, but the bad part is instead of wishing something would happen to the lion he wishes he were a rock! The only way the pebble works is if you are touching it.  His mother and father soon become worried because he isn’t coming home so they search and search for him and end up realizing that he will never come home.  I don’t want to spoil the story but he does turn back into a donkey and keeps the pebble just in case he ever needs it in the future.

  1. I loved your comments about all the books! You had some great insight. I think the only book we both read and blogged about was Me..Jane. I loved this book, I thought it was amazing how it had a real life picture of Jane in the back that you could see the story was relating to. Did you hear of many of these books before being assigned to read them? I found out there were so many new books I have never heard of!
